Thousands of years ago, the Celts held a festival for the Lord of Death. Many monks believed that the Lord of Death ruled the world in winter. They believed that when the Lord of Death came, many evil spirits came with him too.
There were different kinds of evil spirits, such as goblins, ghosts, witches and vampires. The Celts did not like evil spirits. They made big fires to drive the evil spirits away.
It was thought that witches had magic power. It was also believed that witches liked to play tricks on people. Many children like to play tricks on people too. Today, children in America have a lot of fun dressing up in costumes and going “Trick or Treating.”

〔記者沈繼昌 、李容萍／桃園報導〕龍潭鄉石門國中週一進行英文競試，考題出自一份英文雜誌輔助教材，還給競試成績前卅名學生頒獎狀。學校說，英文競試僅作程度測驗，不正式計入成績。不過桃園縣政府教育處說，學校作法可議，將要求學校調整推薦輔助教材和競試方式。
李姓學生家長指出，開學註冊時，雜費單上標示有「遠見雜誌 ABC」可做學生英文科目輔助教材。他詢問學校，獲得不強迫訂閱，僅作課外閱讀參考教材之用。

要形容與某人感情超好，如兄弟姊妹般，這幾年在台灣有了新說法：我們超麻吉！不過要注意，這句話的英文可不是媒體上常見的 We are very much！可見音譯在此處是行不通的。那麼英文該怎麼說呢？你可以說：We are real tight.（tight是「緊密的；親密的」），或是 We are very close.（close一樣也是「緊密的；親密的」之意）、They are bosom buddies.（他們是親密伙伴），這裡的bosom buddy （或bosom friend）是指「知心朋友」，並不是同性戀的意思喔！

怎無颱風假？ 網友KUSO：難休！來work！看boss！
不來則已，一來就驚人！台灣竟然被3個颱風夾擊！除了第6號輕颱萊羅克和第7號康伯斯外，在台灣北方的熱帶性低氣壓，已經在30日晚間8時增強為第8號颱風南修，幸運的是目前尚未造成災情，不過，希望能得到一天颱風假的網友卻十分怨嘆，因此，有人搞KUSO想出為何三颱夾擊卻沒有颱風假可放的原因：一個叫南修（難休）、一個叫萊羅克（來work）、一個叫康柏斯（看boss）。
3個颱風夾擊，但南修颱風的風雨未達停課、停班標準，全台31日都照常上班上課，網友不滿颱風所帶來的大風大雨擾人生活，展現KUSO創意，製作了一張圖──「本島不歡迎未達放假標準之貧弱颱風」。
除了表示「不歡迎」，圖中還建議該貧弱颱風「請增強或改道」，這張圖受到眾多網友的喜愛，在Plurk噗浪中的「轉噗排行榜」中高居第二，「噗友」紛紛表示，「又到了把這張圖拿出來的時候了」、「一定要來這張圖」，還有人號召說「大家來改大頭照唷」。
不只呼籲颱風「增強或改道」，還有網友搞KUSO想出為何三颱夾擊卻沒有颱風假可放的原因：一個叫南修（難休）、一個叫萊羅克（來work）、一個叫康柏斯（看boss）。對於這樣的說法，有網友十分同意留言表示，「名字取的好，放假放的少，原來颱風的命名也暗藏玄機」，還有網友感嘆，「唉~~連名字都這麼明白，看開點吧！以後取名叫『連休』或是『放三天』」。
