A cross the globe people celebration the New Year in different but equally joyous ways.
In Japan , bells ring in the New Year, while at Shinto shrines people read Omikuji - paper tags telling your fortune for the upcoming year.
New York's Times Square is world-famous for its New Year's Eve festivities.
Up to a million people gather as a lighted crystal time ball is lowered from the pole on the One Times Square building at midnight.
Meanwhile, in Paris , people quaff champagne and toot plastic flutes along the Champs-'Elys'ees.
In many places around the world,fireworks feature, and the display at Sydney Harbour is impressive.
A rather different event is the dhow race in Kenya, which attracts many spectators.
However the occasion is marked, the New Year is always a time for fun and frolics !
